Bizarre Injury Claims
There are several accidents that can occur which result in needing a personal injury lawyer. Most accidents involve a car accident, a slip and fall, or other relatable occurrences. On occasion though, accident claims arise that are very bizarre that challenge a personal injury lawyer and shed light on the weird situations that occur in day to day human affairs.
Strange Claims in the 1800s
Prior to delineating acceptable terms for personal injury claims, odd lawsuits arose in the late 1800’s when personal injury law was becoming increasingly popular. In 1892, a man from Essex successfully won a lawsuit for having rice thrown into his eye at a wedding. He was paid fifty pounds as a result. In 1886, an artist was pushed over by a gale of wind and was paid thirty pounds.
Modern Injury Claims
Though the introduction of frivolous litigation has helped alleviate many ridiculous personal injury lawsuits since the 1800’s, certain compensation claims that require a personal injury lawyer still arise that are bizarre. In 2011, a man sued a coal company for a lighting a cigarette in an outdoor washroom that caused an explosion due to a methane leak in a pipe. He was rewarded 10 million dollars. In 2012, a man was decorating a bathroom when he fell through the floorboards and was trapped between floors until emergency services arrived.
Unusual claims that require a personal injury lawyer arise that demonstrate how bizarre human beings are and reflect that accidents occur in all shapes and sizes.
